Kane County Cougars News Release

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - For the third straight game in South Bend the Kane County Cougars scored first, and for the second straight day they picked up a win, this time claiming a 5-3 victory Monday night against the Silver Hawks in front of 5,718 fans at Coveleski Stadium.

The Cougars scored the game's first pair of runs in the second inning against Jarrod Parker (7-5). Jemile Weeks and Michael Richard roped consecutive RBI singles, and in the fifth inning Todd Johnson hit a long, two-run homer to make it 4-0. D.J. Hollingsworth tripled in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch to complete the Cougars' offensive production.

Starter Scott Hodsdon (5-8) snapped a three-start losing streak with the victory. He allowed two runs -- both in the sixth -- on six hits over 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Leonardo Epsinal for 2 2/3 innings and eventually Nick Walters, who saved his fifth game by getting the final two outs.

The Cougars (9-15) are off Tuesday and return to action Wednesday night at Elfstrom Stadium against the Great Lakes Loons with the start of a six-game home stand. Scott Deal (5-3, 3.84) will face Josh Lindblom (0-0, 0.00).
