May 14, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Warner Madrigal's 2 RBI double in the second inning were all the runs the Cedar Rapids Kernels would need as they broke a two game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Clinton LumberKings in front of 506 fans on a cloudy day at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton.
The win moves the Kernels record to 18-19 and keeps them 2-1/2 games behind division leaders Peoria and Kane County. Clinton falls to 12-24.
Kernels starter Nick Adenhart (6-0) scattered seven hits over seven innings of work to earn the win. He allowed an earned run and struck out eight. Tim Didjurgis and Ryan Aldrige held the LumberKings in check the final two innings. Aldrige picked up his sixth save. Clinton starter Omar Poveda (0-4) took the tough loss, allowing five hits and striking out eight Kernels.
The Kernels scored their two runs in the second inning as Dallas Morris led off with a single to left field. With Mark Trumbo batting and two outs in the inning, Morris stole second base to move into scoring position. Trumbo drew a walk to put runners at first and second and bring Warner Madrigal to the plate. Madrigal laced his first double of the season into left field, scoring Morris and Trumbo.
Morris and Madrigal combined for five of the Kernels seven hits with Dallas going 3 for 4 and Warner 2 for 3. Hainley Statia and Madison Edweards had the other two hits.
The Kernels and LumberKings wrap up their four game series on Monday at 6 pm. The game can be heard on KMRY (1450 AM) and on the internet through the Kernels' website at www.kernels.com/radio.html.
