
Kepler, Buxton Headed to Arizona Fall League

Cedar Rapids, IA - Kernels infielder Max Kepler and former Kernels outfielder Byron Buxton will play in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. The two will play for the Glendale Desert Dogs when the league begins play on October 8.
Three former Kernels, pitchers R. J. Alvarez and Cam Bedrosian, along with outfielder Zach Borenstein will play for the Mesa Solar Sox. All three played for the Kernels during the 2012 season when they were affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Arizona Fall League consists of six teams and each MLB team sends six prospects to the AFL. The games are played in Spring Training stadiums used by the Giants, Mariners, Padres, Cubs, A's, Royals, Rangers, Diamondbacks and Rockies and runs through November 16.
The AFL tends to feature the top Double-A and Triple-A prospects from each MLB club. The 2011 MLB All-Star Game featured 41 Arizona Fall League alumni.
The Kernels are in the midst of their final home stand of the 2013 regular season and begin a three game series tonight at 6:35 pm against the Kane County Cougars, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The home stand continues through Friday, August 30th.
