Burlington Bees News Release

Chris O'Grady hurled 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run, while striking out a career-high eight batters to help the Burlington Bees defeat the Beloit Snappers 2-1 on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field.

O'Grady (3-1) has had a hot hand for the Bees (53-77, 27-38) ever since enterting the starting rotation and that continued as he held the Snappers (75-60, 32-33) to just three hits in his time on the mound. The only run he allowed came on a Ryan Mathews home run to lead off the sixth inning.

Burlington scored the game's first run in the fourth inning against Deyvi Jimenez. Jimenez (2-5) surrendered a one-out walk to Wade Hinkle, who then advanced to second on a single by Exicardo Cayones. Zach Wright belted a double off the center field wall to score Hinkle. The Bees added one more in the fifth thanks to another one-out walk, this time to Riley Good. Good advanced to second on a groundout by Pedro Toribio and scored on Angel Rosa's single.

O'Grady cruised through tonight's game, striking out the side in the third and fourth innings. Mathews led off the sixth with his 14th home run, but O'Grady got the next two outs before he was pulled for Daniel Hurtado. Hurtado walked Matt Olson, but got John Wooten to ground out to end the inning.

Hurtado tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, while Kurt Spomer (S, 5) retired the side in order in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Burlington and Beloit will meet again on Thursday night, as Pat Lowery and Derek DeYoung will square off at 7:00 p.m. at Pohlman Field.
