Broken Bats Result in Trees for City of Appleton Parks
August 28, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Broken bats can be a good thing or a bad thing in baseball. Broken bats were a very good thing during the 2013 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers season. The Boldt Company pledged that each time a batter was "sawn off" at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium this season they would donate a tree to a City of Appleton public park.
The program has resulted in nearly 60 new trees that will be donated to the City of Appleton Forestry Department.
"Boldt continues to be committed to sustainability and we are pleased to be part of this environmentally-friendly program," said Paul Coenen, a vice president in Boldt's northern operations. "We hope these trees flourish in our community and positively impact our surroundings for years to come."
The Timber Rattlers, Boldt, and Evergreen Nursery of Sturgeon Bay will have a unique giveaway for the game on Friday, August 30 - the final home game of the regular season for the Timber Rattlers. The first 1,000 fans to attend that game will receive a Colorado Spruce sapling to take home and plant in their own yards.
Tickets are available for Friday's at the Time Warner Cable Field Ticket Office or by calling (800) WI-TIMBER or (920) 733-4152.
