
Pompey's Slam Lifts Lugnuts over Captains 11-2

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Dalton Pompey unloaded his second grand slam of the season in the top of the second inning and the Lansing Lugnuts (26-39, 57-76) defeated the Lake County Captains (30-35) by a final of 11-2. In the second inning, the Lugnuts batted around and scored six runs. The defeat of 9 runs was tied for the largest of the season for the Captains. Lake County has dropped four straight games.
Lake County got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Richard Stock singled and moved to second on a single from Cody Ferrell. Nick Hamilton, then singled home Stock an the Captains trailed 6-1. The Lugnuts added on in the third inning. With two outs and the bases loaded Kellen Sweeney singled home two runs and the score was 8-1 headed to the fourth inning.
In the sixth, Lansing scored again. Dalton Pompey doubled and scored on a RBI single from Dwight Smith Jr. The score was 9-1. In the seventh, Chris Hawkins walked and with two outs, Pompey hit a ground rule double to centerfield. Both runners came home to score on the two run single from Christian Lopes. The score was 11-1. Richard Stock blasted his eighth homerun of the season over the right field wall in the ninth to cap the scoring at 11-2.
RHP Robbie Aviles (4-5) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Aviles pitched three innings and allowed eight hits, eight earned runs, he walked two and struck out two. Aviles allowed the Grand Slam to Dalton Pompey. Jimmy Stokes entered in relief and pitched two innings, of hitless and scoreless baseball. Stokes allowed one walk and he struck out two. Cody Penny pitched three innings and allowed four hits, three earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Grant Sides pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
RHP Kendall Graveman (1-3) started the game for the Lugnuts and earned his first professional win. Graveman pitched five innings and allowed six hits, one earned run, and he fanned three. Kramer Champlin pitched three innings and did not allow a run. Champlin allowed just two hits and struck out five. Tucker Donahue pitched the ninth and allowed three hits and one earned run. He allowed the homerun to Richard Stock.
The Captains will remain in Eastlake, OH for game two of series on Thursday. Lake County will start RHP D.J. Brown (2-4, 2.79) and Lansing will counter with RHP Ben White (8-8, 4.06). First pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by ESPN 850 WKNR, featuring a 25-cent beer Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price draft beer and fountain soda until 9 PM. A wing and pizza buffet will also be available outside the Corona Castaways Bar, featuring Happy Moose Bar and Grill wing sauces and pizza from Cleveland Pizza Company.
Thursday the first 1,000 adult fans will receive a 16-month Captains Calendar courtesy of Lake Health.
