August 18, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 18, 2015 - Outfielder Keon Broxton has been named the Indianapolis Indians' Player of the Month for July. He will be presented with the award - a custom-made watch courtesy of Windsor Jewelry - prior to tonight's 7:05 p.m.
home game against the Norfolk Tides, Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
The 25 year old hit his stride during his second month at the Triple-A level, pacing what still stands as the second-longest on-base streak in the International League for the 2015 season.
Broxton began that stretch with a single on July 3 in Toledo before finding his way on base at least once in each of the remaining 24 games of the month, and in 34 consecutive games overall through Aug. 11. He improved his batting average by 65 points in July as part of the streak and concluded the 34-gamer with the Indians' longest on-base streak since the 2006 campaign.
Broxton, in a month shortened by the All-Star break, finished with a .303 batting average (27-for-89), 13 runs, 13 extra-base hits, 14 RBIs and seven stolen bases over 26 games. He led the team and ranked first in the league in triples (4), fifth in extra-base hits and sixth in doubles (8), while his seven steals on the basepaths were good for second among all Tribe batters and sixth in the IL in July.
Since his award-winning month and as of Aug. 18, Broxton has reached base safely in 37 of 41 games. He will enter today's action ranked sixth in the IL with a .400 OBP since the beginning of July.
