August 18, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) Richard Bleier retired the last 13 Pawtucket Red Sox hitters he faced to lead the Syracuse Chiefs to a 6-2 win on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium. Bleier beat the PawSox for the third time in as many starts as the Chiefs evened the three-game series.
The PawSox played small ball in the first to take an early lead, but Bleier and the Chiefs' offense turned the game around beginning in the third inning. With one out, PawSox starter Shawn Haviland surrendered a triple to Josh Johnson and a double to Emmanuel Burriss that tied the game, 1-1. With two outs, Haviland walked Jason Martinson and hit Kevin Keyes. Matt Skole then blooped a two-out single to push the Chiefs ahead, 3-1.
Pawtucket got their second - and final - run in the bottom of the third, though they were poised for more. Jemile Weeks led off the frame with an infield hit. With one out, Marco Hernandez laid down a beautiful bunt single. Carlos Rivero then scored Weeks with a single to right field that put runners at the corners. Allen Craig then bounced into a double play that ended the threat.
Bleier would not allow another baserunner. The lefthander allowed only five hits in seven innings, walked none and struck out two.
Haviland was lifted after six innings in which he allowed four runs on six hits; the righthander struck out six and walked two.
Dayan Diaz allowed two runs in the eighth inning, only one of which was earned. Keyes led off the frame with a pop-up that was dropped in shallow centerfield. Skole then walked before Darin Mastroianni flied to right; on the fly ball, Keyes tagged and moved to third. Caleb Ramsey singled to left to score Keyes before Skole came home on a Dan Butler double that made it a 6-2 game.
The PawSox return to McCoy tomorrow night for the finale of the series with the Chiefs at 7:05. Righthander Zeke Spruill (4-9, 4.29) goes for Pawtucket and will be opposed by Syracuse righty A.J. Cole (4-5, 3.69). Radio coverage will begin on WHJJ and online at 6:50.
