LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Louisville Bats (60-65) beat the Durham Bulls (59-66), 4-2, Tuesday night in the final game of an eight-game homestand. With the win tonight, Louisville finished the homestand 2-6, marking the team's worst eight-game homestand since going 2-6 from May 7, 2012 to May 14, 2012.

Lefty Tony Cingrani made his first start since July 27 and gave up one hit, walked two, and struck out two in two innings. Righty Josh Smith (W, 3-4, 3.88) replaced Cingrani to start the third and took the win. He went four innings, gave up five hits, allowed one run, walked two, and struck out one.

After three scoreless frames, the Bats broke through in the fourth when Juan Silva grounded into a force out to score Kyle Waldrop. The Bulls followed in the fifth as Joey Rickard hit his second triple of the season and later scored to tie the game, 1-1.

In the sixth, after two walks and a hit batter, Kristopher Negron was plunked to bring in Ramon Cabrera, giving Louisville a 2-1 lead. Hernan Iribarren then singled in two runs extending the Bats' lead to, 4-1.

The Bulls tacked on a run in the seventh from a solo homer by Joey Butler, but righty Collin Balester (S, 7) closed the door with a scoreless ninth inning. Balester notched his seventh save in as many opportunities and has now gone seven and one-third innings without allowing a run.

Taking the mound for the Bulls was lefty Everett Teaford. He went three innings, gave up three hits, walked two, and struck out one. Lefty Robert Zarate (L, 1-1, 3.82) started the sixth inning and took the loss for the Bulls. He went one inning, gave up one hit, allowed three runs, all earned, walked two, and struck out three.

The Bats have an off day Wednesday, but then start a four-game series at Gwinnett Thursday at 6:35 pm. Projected on the bump for the Bats is lefty Brandon Finnegan (0-1, 5.79) and for the Braves righty Sugar Ray Marimon (4-4, 3.62).
