Kelowna Rockets News Release

Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce they have selected Lukas Matejka, 59th overall in the 2008 CHL Import Draft.

The Rockets acquired the 59th overall selection by making a trade with the Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs earlier today. The Rockets gave up their seventh round pick in the 2009 Bantam Draft.

After choosing a right winger in Stepan Novotny with the 24th overall selection earlier today, the Rockets were looking for someone who can play the left side and they found him in Matejka.

A 6'2-190 pound left winger, Matejka played with Plzen in the Czech Republic last season.

President/General Manager of the Kelowna Rockets Bruce Hamilton stated, "Lukas has a late birthday so he won't be eligible for the NHL draft until 2010. We're excited to draft Lukas as he has good size and he skates very well. We expect him to come into training camp and challenge for a spot on our second line and third lines. He's a nice addition, as he will add depth to our roster."

Matejka will be at Rockets training camp in August.
