Chilliwack Bruins News Release

Chilliwack BC - The Chilliwack Bruins have today selected Swedish forward Alexander Viklund with the 21st pick in the CHL Import Draft. Viklund, a 6', 185 pound left winger, has spent the last two seasons playing with Lulea in both the J18 and SuperElit leagues. Viklund also has been a part of the Swedish National Team Program, participating on the U16, U17, and U18 teams over the past three seasons. Viklund played 41 games at the SuperElit level, registering 6 goals and six assists as well as 66 penalty minutes.

Alexander Viklund is described as a power forward who is a strong skater and has a very good wrist shot. Also a great passer who likes traffic and enjoys the physicality of the game. European scouts have compared Viklund's skill set to that of Tomas Holmstrom of the Detroit Red Wings. Viklund also worked out with Team Sweden prior to the World Hockey Championships in Quebec City this past May and was described as not looking out of place among the pro players.

‘We are happy to have acquired Alexander Viklund,' comments Bruins GM Darrell May. ‘Alexander fits the mould of what we are looking for in a Bruins player and we look forward to welcoming him to our team.'
