Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers shutout the Windy City Thunderbolts for the second night in a row, as Alex Kaminsky and Mickey Jannis combined to toss a four hitter at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night in a 3-0 victory.
Lake Erie (19-21) has held the Thunderbolts (17-25) scoreless over the first two games of series, and allowed just six hits during that stretch as well. The ThunderBolts have now lost three out of their last four.
Kaminsky (4-3) turned in his finest start of the season, as he tossed seven scoreless innings of three hit ball, issued just one free pass and he struck out six along the way. Jannis (1) scored his first save of the season, as he delivered two scoreless innings of one hit relief.
The Crushers scored in the first inning for the second night in a row. They plated their run in the first inning without recording a hit. Kevin Berard was hit by a pitch, and stole second base before making his way to third on Max Casper's groundout. Berard came home a few pitches later on Andrew Davis's groundout.
Lake Erie scored their next two runs with two outs. Juan Sanchez's first of three hits on the night was a one out double in the third inning, and he came around to score two batters later on Casper's double down the line in left.
The Crushers added a big insurance run in the seventh. Seth Granger reached on a fielder's choice, and stole second base. David Roney moved Granger to third on a groundout, and Granger scored on Sanchez's RBI single.
Kaminsky's outing marked the second time this season that he went seven innings. In addition, he's now gone six innings or more without allowing an earned run in two of his last three starts. Daniel Cropper (4-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings.
Sanchez's three-hit performance paced the Crushers on the evening. He was the only Crusher to hit safely multiple times. After scoring just five runs on 10 hits against Traverse City in their last series, the Crushers have scored 14 runs on 20 hits over the first two games of this series.
The Crushers will finish their three game series with the Windy City Thunderbolts at All Pro Freight Stadium on Thursday night. The Crushers will start left hander Dave Middendorf (5-3, 2.77) and the Thunderbolts will start righty Travis Tingle (3-2, 3.40). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
