Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters (23-17) received a seven inning quality start from Bryce Morrow and a late grand slam from infielder Ryan Kresky to seal a 10-5 win at the Rockford Aviators.

Evansville hit two home runs in the game, including a leadoff three run homer from Frank Martinez, to tie up the series. Morrow (6-1) also allowed just three runs in 7.0 innings. The Otters now face a series deciding game on July 4th against Rockford with first pitch slated for 1:05 pm CDT.

Evansville scored early against Rockford by scoring three runs in the first inning. Outfielder C.J. Henry reached on a one-out double as designated hitter J.R. Higley also worked a walk. Martinez fouled a ball off his lower leg in the next at-bat and then followed it up with a three-run home run to right field. Martinez limped around the bases as Evansville jumped ahead 3-0.

Starter Bryce Morrow utilized the three run lead, not allowing a run until a fourth inning solo home run.

Ahead 3-1, Evansville rallied again in the fifth inning. Kresky reached on a one out infield single and outfielder John Schultz walked as well. Both men would score two batters later on an RBI double by Nick Schwaner.

Rockford responded though by getting those two runs right back in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ahead 5-3, Evansville plated another run in the seventh inning and loaded the bases again in the eighth. With the bases full, Rockford turned to reliever Nathan O'Bryan but Kresky belted a grand slam that cleared the right field wall.

Evansville would allow two runs in the bottom of the inning but hold on for the eventual 10-5 win.

The Otters improve to 23-17 this season as Rockford falls to 11-29. Martinez finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs, a home run, and three runs batted in. Kresky also ended the night with a three-hit performance with two runs and four RBIs.

Evansville will go for the series win tomorrow with LHP Rich Hawkins (1-3, 4.36 ERA) against RHP Drew Rucinski (2-5, 2.68 ERA).

Fans can tune in to the Evansville Otters pre-game show beginning at 6:45 pm CDT.
