Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers jumped out to an early 3-0 only to see it dissolve into a 6-5 loss to the Southern Illinois Miners Wednesday evening at Boomers Stadium.
The Boomers (23-19) plated a three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Alexi Colon's two-RBI double to give RHP Chris Phelan the run support he deserved. Phelan worked 6.2 innings scattering six hits, allowing just two runs and left with the lead. However, for the third straight quality start the Boomers righty would not factor in the decision.
The Boomers bullpen surrendered a four-run eighth inning to the Miners as Steve Liddle tied the game with a solo shot at three apiece to preface the four run rally. Colon finished the night 2-for-4 as Michael Valadez added two hits and an RBI in the loss.
The Boomers and Miners will meet in Game Three of the series Thursday at 6:30 as Chicago native Mike Giovenco (3-4, 4.75) will take on southpaw Richard Sullivan (2-3, 4.40) for Southern Illinois.
