
Beach Bums Drop Game Two of Series

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied for a run in the eighth and had the tying run on during the ninth, but the River City Rascals withheld the Beach Bums charge, upending Traverse City 3-2 on Wednesday night.
River City got on the board in the second inning as Evan Crawford tripled to lead off the inning and came in to score on a Curran Redal groundout.
The Beach Bums tied the game in the fourth as Zach Kometani singled with two outs and adavcned to second on a wild pitch. Sean Gusrang came up and laced a doubled into the rightfield corner, plating Kometani. The Rascals got the run back in the top of fifth as on the first two pitches of the inning, Redal and Danny Canela doubled to put RC up 2-1. The lead was extended in the seventh when Crawford, who reached on an infield single to open the inning, scored on a passed ball to up the lead to 3-1.
Traverse City continued to battle as leading off the eighth, Taylor Wrenn doubled to center. He moved up to third on a groundout by Chase Burch and came in to score on a Kometani single to cut the lead to 3-2. The Beach Bums challenged in the ninth, getting the tying run into scoring position with two out, but Gabriel Shaw shut the door to close the game.
Justin Sarratt (2-5) picked up the win allowing one run during five innings. Shaw locked down his 10th save of the year. Johnny Omahen (2-4) took the loss for Traverse City, despite logging a quality start with three runs during six-plus innings.
Offensively, both Kometani and Wrenn had multi-hit games with Kometani driving in and scoring a run each.
The series wraps up on Thursday as the Beach Bums host their annual Welcome Home Celebration at Wuerfel Park. Veterans and active duty military members will be invited onto the field for a pregame ceremony with special recognition being given to WWII veterans. There will be a flyover from a B-17 "Flying Fortress" prior to the game and extra special fireworks following the contest sponsored in part by Team Bob's. It is also a Thirsty Thursday with $1 off drinks sponsored by Faygo, Northwoods Soda & Syrup Company, H. Cox & Sons, and Bells Microbrew Beer. Mike Devine (2-1, 4.75) will get the start for Traverse City against Brett Harman (0-5, 2.43) for the Rascals.
