Last time out...

The Frontier Greys scored six runs in the fifth inning and that's all they would need as the Slammers fell by a final score of 7-1 on Tuesday night. Alavaro Ramirez led off the fifth inning with a single and Esteban Meletiche hit a single of his own to put two on and nobody out for catcher Chris Kay. Kay laid down a sacrifice bunt that Lofgren gloved with no issue but the throw was the problem as Lofgren missed the first base bag, allowing Ramirez to score, tying the game and letting both Meletiche and Kay reach safely at third and second base. Brock McCallister followed a Justin Vasquez groundout by hitting a two-run single that scored Meletiche and Kay on the play, putting the Greys up 3-1. J.J. Muse reached on a dropped third strike from catcher Kolin Conner and Balbino Fuenmayor hit a three-run home run to put the Greys up by a tally of 6-1. Jerod Yakubik had a RBI single for Joliet.

For Starters...

Tonight will be Shawn Kale's first start in a nine-inning game this season. His previous three starts have been in double headers, which are seven-inning games. Kale lost his last outing on June 27 against the Rockford Aviators as he went five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits in a 4-2 defeat. Kale is 1-2 on the year but in his two losses the Slammers have provided a combined total of two runs in support. He began the year in the bullpen before earning a spot in the rotation. Kale is a product of D-2 Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. The 24-year old right-hander went 3-0 in the Pecos League and also pitched for the Abilene Prairie Dogs of the North American Baseball League last season in his first year of professional baseball.

I plead the fifth...

The fifth inning wasn't just a problem for the Slammers last night. They've given up 34 runs this year in the fifth inning, the most they've surrendered in any frame. Meanwhile they have scored 19 runs in the fifth for a -15 run differential, their worst of any inning.

Not so sweet home...

Last night's six-run loss was the Slammers' largest margin of defeat at home this season.

Trying to avoid a new low...

The Slammers are currently eight games .500, they have not been nine games under .500 this year and will need a win tonight to avoid that mark.

Save me...

Justin Erasmus is 8-8 in save opportunities this season and the Slammers have not blown a save as a team. They are undefeated when leading after seven.

Not so comeback kids...

Joliet has not come back from a deficit of more than three runs this year

Riley raking...

Rookie Marquis Riley is adjusting to professional baseball quite nicely. He is hitting .333 over the Slammers' past 10 games with seven RBI. Riley leads the Slammers with 11 multi-hit games and is hitting .292, first on the team.

Holding on...

The Slammers have posted an impressive 14-2 record when leading after six innings this season. However they are 2-22 when tied or trailing after six.

High five!

The Slammers are 12-2 when they score five or more runs. They are 4-22 when scoring less than five.

They gone!!

Slammers' pitching has struck out 301 batters so far this season; second most in the Frontier League. They have matched their franchise record for K's in one game (14) five times this season. They only struck out 14 batters in a game once before this season (last year in extra innings vs. London).
