Kalamazoo Wings Week in Review
March 13, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The K-Wings started off the week on Friday (3/10) with a road game against the Muskegon Fury. With Muskegon carrying a 1-0 lead into the second period, Kalamazoo answered back with two goals from Jason Deitsch (30) and Nick Bootland (30). The goal by Deitsch extended the rookie's goal streak to a UHL season high of nine games. With the game tied at 2-2, Muskegon's special teams took over, scoring two power-play goals and adding a shorthanded goal en route to a 5-2 victory over Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo started a four-game home stand on Saturday (3/11) against the Port Huron Flags. Tyler Willis led all scorers in the game, recording two goals and two assists during the K-Wings 8-1 victory over the Flags. Willis' first goal of the game, which proved to be the game-winner, tied a K-Wings UHL record. The game-winner for Willis tied the K-Wings UHL franchise record for most game-winning goals in a single season (6). Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert was splendid between the pipes, stopping 17 of the 18 shots he faced to earn his 13th win of the season.
The K-Wings concluded the week on Sunday (3/12) at Wings Stadium against the Muskegon Fury. With first place on the line in the Central Division, the K-Wings delivered one of their top performances of the season. With all but two players getting in the scoring column; Kalamazoo shutout the two-time defending Champions by the final of 6-0. The shutout, which was Kalamazoo's second against Muskegon this season, was also the 8th shutout for goaltender Joel Martin. The eight shutouts by Martin, ties UHL record for most shutouts in a single-season. The victory by Kalamazoo, which is their third in four games against Muskegon, puts the K-Wings in first place in the Central Division.
