Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), announced today that they have traded left wing David Beauregard to the Danbury Trashers for right wing Carlyle Lewis, defenseman Frederic Belanger, and forward John Osborne.
Lewis, 28, leads all Vipers players in penalty minutes with a whopping 221, and is expected to provide the much-needed physical support the team has been in search of. Lewis complements the massive number under the penalty minute column in his stats with 21 points (9G, 12A) in 45 games. The Nova Scotia native spent six seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL prior to the 2005-06 season, compiling a total of 1290 regular season penalty minutes along with 140 points (61G, 79A). This is the 6-foot-3, 234-pound winger's first season in the UHL.
Belanger, who will turn 27 this month, is also enjoying his first season in the UHL, and has set career-highs in goals (5), assists (22), and points (27). The 6-foot-1, 205-pound D-man spent last season with the Reading Royals and the Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL combining for eight points (1G, 7A) over 26 games with the two clubs. Belanger played four years at Dalhousie University after six seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Osborne, 25, has one point (1G) and 16 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Trashers this season. The Scarborough, Ontario native stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 190.
"David has been a big part of our organization for the past two years," said team owner and governor Kristen Dixon of Beauregard's departure. "We are happy that he has the opportunity to go to Danbury and compete for the Colonial Cup."
The team will compensate for the loss of Beauregard's team-leading 76 points (33G, 43A) with the help of new acquisition Sean Starke, who joined the Vipers through a trade with the Flint Generals last week, which sent Charlie Elezi and Erick Lajoie to Flint. Starke already has three points (3G) in as many games in a Vipers uniform.
The Vipers will hit the road for three games this week beginning Wednesday in Adirondack and continuing Friday and Saturday in Danbury, as Beauregard will reunite with his old teammates for three games, the third taking place on Sunday, March 19th at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Vipers and the Trashers will face off at 5:05p.m. next Sunday. Come out and greet Glenn Ridler, Sean Starke, Simon Rizk, Carlyle Lewis, Frederic Belanger, and the rest of the new additions to the Vipers roster!
