Not to be outdone was the speedy center man Leo Thomas who had a career night himself by netting six points in the game. Thomas helped the Generals outscore the Mechanics by a 9-4 margin. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions as this game had a little bit of everything. The Mechanics had a two goal lead, then the Mechanics were down by two, then they tied the game, then they had to score in the shootout to extend, then they had to score to end the game. Up and down the fans were certainly entertained by this game as it had a playoff atmosphere to it. Brent Gretzky and David Herring gave the Mechanics the 2-0 lead, however, Flint responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. The Mechanics never gave up and quickly scored in the third to cut the lead to just one. Adam Edinger netted his 41st goal. Then Matt Smith tied the game at 11:09 when he snuck in from the point to bury a shot on the doorstep of the crease. Both teams tightened up from there on out and both teams headed into the shootout.

Malcolm Hutt scored in the third round for the Generals followed by Chris Gignac who tied the shootout in the fifth and final round. Then Kris Vernarsky won the game in the seventh round when he fired a wrist shot past the Flint goaltender to give the Mechanics a 5-4 win and complete the amazing third period comeback.
