Mechanics finish historical season
April 26, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Motor City Mechanics News Release
FRASER,MI-The Motor City Mechanics historical second season comes to an end tonight with a 2-0 shutout loss at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena.
It was an exciting and historical second season of Mechanics hockey, however, the Mechanics fell short of the ultimate goal of winning the Colonial Cup.
The Mechanics threw everything they had at the Wings including 39 shots but Joel Martin was up to the task and recorded his second shutout of the series.
Kory Karlander recorded both Wings goals. One in the first period the other was an empty net goal that sealed the game and series.
The Mechanics have nothing to hang their heads about as they made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, Adam Edinger broke the single season goal scoring mark, Brent Gretzky broke the single season point total mark, along with many other milestones along the way.
Rod Branch also broke some records he set last year and set some new UHL records. Branch finished the season with 72 games played (all-time UHL record), minutes played (all-time UHL record), and saves (all-time UHL record).
