Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review

November 15, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The K-Wings started the week at home on Wednesday, November 10th against the Muskegon Fury. After a scoreless opening period, the Fury jumped out to a two-nothing lead early in the second stanza. In the third period, David Hukalo (4) pushed a rebound past Clayton Poole to bring the K-Wings within a goal. With under a minute left in regulation, the Fury added a empty net goal to give Muskegon the 3-1 victory over Kalamazoo.

On Friday, November 12th the K-Wings traveled to St. Charles, Missouri to battle the Missouri River Otters. The term goaltending duel took a new meaning last Friday, as both Chad Alban and Missouri's Jason Tapp stopped everything they saw in the 60 minutes of regulation. In the shootout, Andrew Luciuk and Tim Turner both scored for Kalamazoo. Alban continued his stellar play in the shootout allowing just one goal on five shots to lead the K-Wings past the River Otters by the final of 1-0.

Kalamazoo concluded the week on Saturday, November 13th at home against the Adirondack Frostbite. The first two periods of Saturday's game resembled the night before, as neither team were able to score in the defensive battle. In the third period, Sylvain Cloutier broke the tie with his fourth goal of the season to give the Frostbite a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo's Daniel Carriere (2) answered right back with a blast from the left circle to tie the game at 1-1. Adirondack took the lead for good midway in the final period with a goal from Bruce Gardiner (3). The Frostbite added some insurance late in the game in form of a power-play goal by Justin Kelly (5), as the Frostbite went on to defeat Kalamazoo by the final of 3-1.

Fast Forward
The Kalamazoo Wings will start the week this Wednesday, November 17th in Port Huron for a 6:40 p.m. contest against the Beacons. The K-Wings are 2-0-0 against the Beacons this season. Kalamazoo starts the week in third place in the Central Division just seven points behind Muskegon for first place and two points behind Flint for second. The K-Wings will be looking to extend their two-game road winning streak, while the Beacons will look to snap a three-game overall winless streak. The Beacons are 2-10-1 on the year and are fourth in the Central Division.

On Friday, November 19th the K-Wings return home to play the Missouri River Otters at 7:30 p.m. at Wings Stadium. The game, which starts a two-game home stand, coincides with Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce Night presented by Centennial Wireless and Fifth-Third Bank. The K-Wings won the lone appearance between the teams last week at The Family Arena. Overall the K-Wings are 29-11-4 against Missouri and 8-1-1 against the Otters since last season. The River Otters are on a two game winning streak and are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. Missouri starts the week in third place in the Western Division.
