Perfect Weekend Moves Quad City to Second in West

Quad City Mallards News Release


Moline, IL – The Mallards won a pair of games at home this weekend to improve to 6-1-1 in their last eight contests.  Quad City beat Port Huron 2-1 on Friday at The MARK before hammering Kansas City 7-1 on Saturday.  The team remains undefeated at home with a 4-0-1 record.  This week, the Mallards host Motor City on Friday.  On Saturday, the Mallards travel to Rockford for their fourth meeting of the season with the IceHogs.  Quad City wraps up the weekend with a home contest vs. the Muskegon Fury on Sunday.    Upcoming Games

  ·         Saturday, November 20, 7:05 p.m. at the Rockford IceHogs- The First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show starts at 6:40 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.  After the game, stay tuned for the Allstate Insurance Del Newton/Christy Cox Post-Game Show. 

·         Sunday, November 21, 3:00 p.m. vs. the Muskegon Fury-It's Family Fun Day Sunday as the Mallards host Scout Night.  Boy and Girl Scouts from throughout the Quad Cities will be in attendance to watch the Mallards play the defending Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury.   Before the game, fans are invited to a pre-game skate from 1:15 p.m-2 p.m.     

 

Upcoming Promotions

·         November 27th is sure to be one of the most memorable dates in Mallards history.  Kerry Toporowski will have his #77 jersey retired as the Mallards take on the Fort Wayne Komets.  A Kerry Toporowski DVD will be given away to fans courtesy of Deere Harvester Credit Union.    ·         Following the game on November 27th, the Mallards are hosting a Roast of Kerry Toporowski.  Join the team, as they take their shots at one of the most notorious pranksters in team history.  Special surprises guests will also attend in honor of Topper.  Tickets are available for $25 with proceeds going towards the purchase of cancer equipment at Genesis Medical Center.  Tickets are available at The MARK box office or via phone (563) 326-1111.   Duck Talk

Friday, November 19 vs. Motor City at The MARK

The Mallards host the Mechanics in the first ever meeting between the franchises.  Motor City begins this week with a 2-11-0 record, the worst in the UHL.  The expansion team is coached by Garry Unger.  The former Red Wing is one of just a handful of players that was a teammate of both Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky.  Unger played with Howe in Detroit from 1967-1971 before teaming with Gretzky in Edmonton from 1980-1983.   Saturday, November 20 at Rockford

The Mallards make their third trip to Rockford this Saturday.  The Hogs beat Quad City 8-4 on Opening Night in Rockford.  The Mallards won a rematch 5-4 on November 3rd in Rockford.  Greg Barber had two goals and two assists in the Mallards victory while captain Terry Hollinger recorded four assists.  The Mallards trail Rockford by six points for first in the Western Division.   Sunday, November 21 vs Muskegon at The MARK

The Fury make their first trip of 2004-05 to The MARK on Sunday.  The Fury are 2-0-0 vs. the Mallards this season with victories by a combined scored of 10-2.  Muskegon lost for the first time this year on Saturday when the Generals spanked the Fury 5-1 in Flint.   Standings

The trio of Mike Kompon, Marty Standish and Paul Cabana combined for 15 points in two games over the weekend.  On Friday, Standish scored his second goal as a Mallard with Cabana and Kompon earning assists on the goal.  Standish also assisted on a first period power-play goal.  On Saturday, the line scorched Kansas City for three goals and 11 points.  Standish received first star honors for the second consecutive night with a goal and three helpers.  Paul Cabana recorded his first multiple goal game as he scored a pair and added an assist while receiving second star.  Kompon was named third star on Saturday on the strength of four assists.  Kompon's four helpers on Saturday ties a UHL season high for assists in a game.  Kompon is tied for the league lead with 13 assists on the season.    Reynaert and Gherson Outstanding in Net

Jeff Reynaert and Robert Gherson combined to stop 45 of 47 opponents shots last weekend.  Reynaert recorded his fifth victory of the season on Friday vs. Port Huron.  Reynaert stopped 19 of 20 Beacons shots.  Robert Gherson turned asided 26 of 27 shots on Saturday vs. Kansas City.  Gherson leads the UHL in goals against average (1.45) and is tied for the league lead in save percentage (.948).    Last Week's Games

Friday, November 12-Port Huron 1 at Quad City 2

Quad City remained unbeaten at home with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Beacons.  Sergei Durdin scored his second professional goal at the 11:12 mark of the first on a power play.  David Beauregard tied the game 3:46 later when he scored Port Huron's lone goal of the night.  The Mallards scored the game winner just 14 seconds into the second as Marty Standish beat Port Huron netminder Daniel Berthiaume to give the Mallards a 2-1 lead.  The last 39:46 of the game went scoreless as the Mallards survived a defensive struggle to improve to 3-0-1 on home ice.   Saturday, November 13-Kansas City 1 at Quad City 7

The Mallards pulled away from the Outlaws with four unanswered goals in the third period.  The game marked the biggest margin of victory and the most goals scored by the Mallards this season.  Jonathan Gagnon scored the Mallards first goal at the 7:50 mark of the first.  Gagnon's goal was his sixth of the season and his fourth vs. Kansas City.  Marty Standish made it 2-0 with his third Mallards goal at the 11:32 mark of the first.  In the second, Bill Zalba scored to pull the Outlaws within a goal of the Mallards.  Paul Cabana answered that goal just 3:03 later with his first goal of the night.  In the third, four separate goal scorers put the Outlaws away as Terry Hollinger, Cabana, Justin Brown and Drew Otten scored.  Hollinger's marker was his first of 2004-05.  He begins the week tied for second in scoring amongst UHL defensemen with 10 points (a goal and nine assists) in 12 games.  Brown's goal was his first professional marker.     Player of the Week

Marty Standish is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week.  Standish received first star honors in both of the Mallards games last week.  On Friday, he recorded a goal and an assist in the Mallards win over Port Huron.  On Saturday, Standish had a goal and three assists in a 7-1 Mallards win.     Goaltender of the Week

Robert Gherson is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week.  Gherson stopped 26 of 27 shots in a 7-1 victory over Kansas City on Saturday.  The rookie netminder leads the league in goals against average (1.45) and is tied for first in save percentage (.948) after allowing just seven goals on 127 shots.       Tickets on sale now!
