Proulx nabs UHL's Player of the Week
November 15, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League announced Monday that Rockford IceHogs center Olivier Proulx has been named the UHL's Sher-Wood Player of the Week for Week 5 of the 2004-05 season. Proulx had 4g-5a-9pts and a plus/minus rating of +7 during the Hogs four-game week.
Proulx began the week with a short-handed goal in Rockford's 4-2 win over the Port Huron Beacons on Wednesday at Port Huron. Friday night, the St. Jerome, Quebec native chipped in an assist as the IceHogs picked up a shootout point in Fort Wayne.
Then the second year pro completed his break out week, helping lead the IceHogs over the Beacons once again on Saturday, and to a shootout point against the Missouri River Otters on Sunday. Proulx had a goal and three assists in Rockford's 5-2 win over the Beacons. Finally, with Rockford trailing the Otters 3-1 late in the third period Sunday, Proulx notched a pair of goals, including the equalizer with just 32 seconds left in regulation to force a shootout.
"It feels good to get a couple of points and pick up some wins," said Proulx. "I had a rough start and now I am finally able to put the puck in the net. The three of us (Chris Gobert and Terry Harrison) have been playing a lot better. Those two played together before in college, so I have to do my best to learn to play with those guys. But it's been really easy, because they are fast and our passing has been getting better."
This season is Proulx's first in Rockford. Last season, he led the Dayton Bombers (ECHL) in scoring as a rookie, scoring 20g-33a-53pts before a late season call-up to the Lowell Lock Monsters (AHL). Proulx skated for five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and amassed 407 points in 335 games.
Proulx, along with his line mates Chris Gobert and Terry Harrison, were also instrumental in continuing the IceHogs scoring barrage with center J.C Ruid out of the line-up. The three-second year players combined for 6g-12a-18pts and a plus/minus rating of +20 with Ruid on the 7-Day Injured Reserve. Rockford finished the week 2-0-2.
Upcoming Home Games: The IceHogs return to the MetroCentre this weekend for two crucial games. The IceHogs welcome the Muskegon Fury to the MetroCentre on Friday in a battle of the top two teams in the UHL. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans to the game will receive Smash Hit Hockey Poster #2 from Medicine Man, Pepsi, Johnson Press, Rockford Register Star and The Eagle 96.7 FM.
On Saturday the Quad City Mallards return to the MetroCentre for a Western Division showdown. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and the first 1,000 kids 12-and under will receive a full-length hockey stick courtesy of Lonnies Carpet Max and 23WIFR. For tickets call (815) 968-5222.
