Kalamazoo Ends Home Stand with a 6-2 Victory over Fort Wayne

Kalamazoo, MI- A night after their worst loss of the season, the Kalamazoo Wings (7-5-0-0) unleash the offense and earn their largest offensive outburst of the year with a 6-2 win over the Fort Wayne Komets (7-3-0-1). The four-goal victory for Kalamazoo is also their largest margin of victory on the season.

Taking advantage of an early power play opportunity, Darren Archibald (6th) made no mistake when he took a pass up the middle of the ice on a breakaway. Archibald buried the shot through the five-hole after taking the pass from Sam Ftorek who collected his team leading 11th assist. Ftorek and Archibald both continued their five-game point streak and Ftorek has now registered points in 11 of the 12 games played this season.

Fort Wayne would not go quietly in the first, however, Stephon Thorne (2nd) took a shot from the circle which was saved by Joel Martin but Thorne would not be denied putting home his own rebound to tie the game 1-1. Brandon Mariano picked up the assist on the goal extending his point streak to eight games.

With time winding down, Kalamazoo assistant captain Kory Karlander (2nd) snuck behind the Fort Wayne defense and buried a one-time shot to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd intermission. The goal for Karlander was his 999th point of his pro career.

Special teams played a pivotal role in the second period, starting with a 5-on-3 power-play goal from Brett Lysak (6th) 2:40 into the stanza.

Disrupting a K-Wings power-play later in the man-advantage, Matt Firman (1st) intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway cutting the Kalamazoo lead to 3-2 at 3:35 of the second period.

But again answering back like he has all season, Lysak (7th) took advantage of a fortunate bounce when his shot was put home by Fort Wayne forward Colin Chaulk.

Not to be outdone by his line mates, Eric Kattelus (4th) slotted home a goal of his own, this one of the shorthanded variety. Taking a pass from Lysak, his third point of the period, Kattelus ripped a shot using the Komets defenseman as a screen that found its way into the back of the net giving the K-Wings 5-2 lead heading into the final frame.

Keeping their foot on the throttle, Kalamazoo tacked on one more goal in the third period from Nick Sirota (3rd) to close out the scoring.

The K-Wings finished their season-long home stand with a record of 2-3-0-0. Kalamazoo will begin a four-game road swing on Saturday, November 17th at 7 p.m. against the Orlando Solar Bears.

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Friday, November 23rd with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Komets on WNWN Rivalry Night and FANomenal Friday, featuring $2 beer, $1 Pepsi and $1 hot dogs.

Single-game for the 2012-2013 season are on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday's. To charge tickets by phone, please call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.

Tickets for all K-Wings home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 14 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and New Year's Eve game) are just $1 more.

Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance because tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).
