Titans Drop Fifth Straight; Fall in Reading, 4-1
November 10, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
Reading, PA - The Trenton titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have had just about enough of the Reading Royals to last a while. Playing them for the fourth game in a row - and sixth of the first 11 to start the year - the Titans dropped their fifth consecutive game and fourth straight to Reading, falling on the road, 4-1, before 4,365 at the Sovereign Center Saturday night.
Despite heavy pressure from the Titans early, it was the Royals who broke out quickly and often. After netting the game-winner last night, Kirk MacDonald put the Royals up 1-0 with a blast from the same spot - top of the right circle - beating Niko Hovinen (L, 25 saves, 1-3) low at 3:15 of the first.
Thirty-one seconds later David Vallorani made it 2-0 after taking a crease-high feed from Alex Berry and slipping it just inside the left post past Hovinen.
Brandon Anderson (W, 32 saves, 2-2-0-1) kept the Royals momentum going after the Titans Marcel Noebels was hooked by Bryant Molle on a breakaway at 14:34. Though he was beaten stick-side, Anderson cut off enough of the angle on Noebels ensuing penalty shot to force it wide into the left post and bounce harmlessly away. Three minutes later Denny Urban put an exclamation point on the period, notching his fourth of the year as the Royals took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
The lead was extended to 4-0 midway into the second and stayed that way until the 10:37 mark in the third. Pier-Olivier Moran got his first professional point on the power play after a Blake Kessel blast from the left point went wide of Anderson and behind the net. A perfect rebound caromed to the right circle dot, where Morin pinched in hard and one-timed a rocket just under the crossbar past Anderson to spoil the shutout and end the scoring.
With the win Reading - which started the year 1-5-0-1 - has taken five straight and is atop the Atlantic Division by a point over Elmira. Starting 5-1 on the season, Trenton is now 5-6 and in third place in the Atlantic.
The two sides meet for the fifth consecutive time Sunday afternoon at 4:05 pm, back in Reading.
AFTER THE HORN
The teams combined for 62 PIM, including six fighting majors and seven roughing minors.
Reading is now 5-0-0-1 when scoring first - 4-0 against Trenton.
Trenton is 0-6 when giving up the first goal, never having the lead in any of those games. They are also 5-0 when scoring first, having never trailed in those wins.
Despite all the penalties there were only 6 total PP. Trenton went 1-for-4 and Reading 0-for-2. With that 0-2 Reading PP, the Titans have now killed off 21 consecutive opponent's PP, and 21 consecutive against Reading as well.
