Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors topped Cincinnati 5-3 becoming the first team this season beat the Cyclones in regulation.

The first period began in the same fashion as last night with Cincinnati starting off the game with the lead. Just two minutes and seven seconds into the game Cincinnati's leading scorer Garrett Wilson shot a one timer that beat goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. Cincinnati worked the puck behind the net as Josh Shalla connected a pass to Dan Eves behind who fed Wilson in the slot for his fifth of the season. The Road Warriors would respond with a Rob Kwiet slap shot that beat Brian Foster. Jeremy Gouchie and Mike Marcou were the assists on the goal that closed out the first period scoring.

Cincinnati would change goalies to begin the second as Zoltan Hetenyi took over for Brian Foster. 20 seconds into the second Lieuwen stood tall in net, stopping all 19 shots in the period. The Road Warriors would take the lead with a goal from Kyle Haines with the first of his professional career. Brandon Wong chipped the puck in the zone and Shayne Wiebe quickly passed it from behind the net to Haines in the slot.

The eventful third period started with a penalty 53 seconds in to David Pecan. The Road Warriors were not able to convert but Kyle Haines tallied his second goal of the night shortly after the power play expired. Kenndal McArdle and T.J. Reynolds assisted on the goal. 39 seconds later Jonathan Hazen would bring the Cyclones back to within one. Shortly after the goal Sebastien Piche and David McDonald each received roughing penalties with an extra elbowing call going to McDonald halfway through the third. The Road Warriors capitalized on the power play with Rob Kwiet scoring his second of the game with a slapshot that beat Hetenyi blocker high. Connolly and Wong were the assists on the goal making it Wong's second assist of the game and extended his point streak to eight games. Cincinnati would make it interesting as they came within one goal again with Francois Bouchard putting a shot past Lieuwen with two minutes and 15 seconds remaining. Sean Berkstresser added an empty-netter in the final minute to solidify the win for Greenville. Lieuwen got the win in net stopping 37 of 40 shots. Hetenyi took the loss saving 20 of 23 shots.
