Kadin Chung and Thomas Hasal again called up to Canada U-20s Jan 27th 2017, 20:18
Canada Soccer announced on Friday that Whitecaps FC 2 right back Kadin Chung and Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency goalkeeper Thomas Hasal have again been called up to Canada's U-20 national team.
Also called up again is Whitecaps FC Residency graduate Aymar Sigue.
Canada Soccer will take a small group of players for a nine-day training camp in Mexico as part of the continuing preparations for the CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship in February. The camp runs January 27 to February 4, with friendly matches against Cruz Azul and CF América youth teams.
The camp primarily features players based with clubs in Canada and universities in USA. While the camp features a pair of players from European clubs, the bulk of players with MLS first teams or European teams have remained with their clubs.
Beyond the camp in Mexico and final assessments, Canada Soccer's men's national U-20 team will select a squad of 20 players to participate in the CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship from February 17 to March 5.
Canada will kick off against Honduras on February 17 in San José, Costa Rica. Canada will also face Mexico (February 20) as well as Antigua & Barbuda (February 23) in a difficult group that will advance only two nations to the second round.
From 12 nations split into three groups, four nations will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017. After the opening group phase, six nations play two or three more matches through to the CONCACAF final on March 5.
Canada Soccer's Men's EXCEL Program channels our nation's exceptional players into the best soccer environments. The Canada Soccer Pathway works in collaboration with our provincial and territorial partners as well as the professional clubs and academies. For Canada's elite players, the program emphasizes player development on the pathway to representing Canada's men's national team in international soccer.
