Game Rewind

Wednesday, November 23rd @ Cincinnati (Cincinnati 5-Kalamazoo 2)

Cincinnati, OH- The Kalamazoo Wings concluded their four-game road swing on a sour note, as the K-Wings lost to division rivals, the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-2. Kalamazoo concluded the four-game swing with a record of 2-1-0-1.

A sloppy start filled with plenty of turnovers forced the K-Wings into a first period hole. Ryan Annesley (1st) put the Cyclones ahead 3:40 into the period with a rebound marker.

Two minutes later, Daniel Koger (2nd), who assisted on the first Cincinnati tally, stripped Elgin Reid of the puck in front of the K-Wings net and quickly snuck it past Riley Gill to extend Cincinnati's lead to 2-0.

Stopping the bleeding later in the period, Nick Sirota put the K-Wings on the board by recording his third goal of the season on a third chance opportunity, which was created by an initial shot from Steven Anthony, who was returning to the K-Wings' lineup after missing the past five games due to injury.

Building on their lead in the second period, Evan Trupp registered his first goal of the his pro career 9:28 into the stanza, with a one-timer that was setup by a pass from Koger. Also assisting on the tally was Michael Pelech, who was making his Cyclones debut after being acquired from the Toledo Walleye earlier in the week. The helper was Pelech's team-leading sixth of the season.

A K-Wings power-play turned into a Cyclones scoring chance later in the period, when Sam Ftorek's blue line slap shot ricocheted off the skate of Pelech and into the neutral zone. Pelech would out race the K-Wings to the puck and sent the puck to Chris Cahill, who notched his 2nd goal of the season on the shorthanded breakaway.

Each team tacked on a goal late in the third period. Justin Taylor scored his sixth of the season by deflecting a Brandon Svendsen wrist shot. The assist from Svendsen extended his point streak to five games.

Reclaiming a three-goal lead with .03 remaining, Koeger (3rd) wrapped up a four-point night (2 goals, 2 assists) on an empty-netter.

Friday, November 25th Vs Florida (Florida 5-Kalamazoo 1)

Kalamazoo, MI- Returning to Wings Stadium to start a three-game home stand, the Kalamazoo Wings dropped the first game of the stand with a 5-1 loss to the Florida Everblades.

Fans wouldn't have to wait long for scoring, as both teams scored on their first shots of the game. Kalamazoo lit the lamp 1:18 into the contest, when former Everblade, Elgin Reid earned his first goal as a K-Wing on a left circle slap shot.

Florida didn't record their first shot until 6:53 into the period, but it proved to be a big one. Finding the loose puck in a scrum in front of the K-Wings net, David Rutherford fought through the traffic and knocked in his fifth goal of the season.

Fueled by several power-play chances, the Everblades were able to keep momentum in the second period. Florida jumped ahead midway in the period with a wrist shot from Trevor Bruess (3rd).

Less than three minutes later, the 'Blades added to their lead with a power-play strike by Rutherford (6th), his second tally of the night.

The K-Wings fell into a bigger hole 17:33 into the period, when Mathieu Roy (3rd) deflected a David Fischer slap shot. Following the goal, head coach Nick Bootland pulled goaltender Riley Gill for Maxime Clermont. Gill (7-4-0-1) finished the night with 18 saves on 22 shots. In relief, Clermont made four saves on four shots.

Kalamazoo's best scoring chance occurred late in the third period, when Fischer covered the puck with his glove in the Everblades' crease to create a penalty shot.

In the ensuing penalty shot, Trent Daavettila tried to sneak a back-hander around Pat Nagle, but like most of the night, Nagle was able to come up with save. Nagle (5-4-0-0) would end the night with a career-high 46 saves.

Rutherford (7th) registered the lone goal of the period with 1 tenth of a second remaining with a empty-netter.

Sunday, November 26th Vs Florida (Kalamazoo 2-Florida 1-Overtime)

Kalamazoo, MI- Stagnate for two and a half periods, the Kalamazoo Wings came alive at the right time scoring two late goals, including an overtime game-winner to secure a 2-1 victory over the Florida Everblades.

While neither team was able to score in the opening period, the K-Wings did have one goal disallowed. Trying to finish off an odd-man rush, Eric Kattelus kicked the puck past John Muse, to force the apparent goal off the scoreboard. Generating a majority of the scoring chances, Kalamazoo outshot Florida 16-6 in the opening 20 minutes.

For the second straight night the fans of Wings Stadium would be treated to the most exciting play in sports, a penalty shot, and for the second straight game a goaltender kept the puck out of the net. Taken down on a breakaway, Florida's Matt Beca, received a penalty shot. On the ensuing shot, Beca's wrister bounced off the pipe keeping the game scoreless.

Finally ending the gridlock midway through the second period, Mike McKenzie (3rd) gave the Everblades the lead with a wrap-around tally.

Pulling even 13:39 into the third period, Justin Taylor notched his seventh goal of the season and third on a power-play on a slap shot from the slot.

Striking late in overtime, Steven Anthony's centering pass found a wide-open Kory Karlander (5th) in the slot for the game-winner, which snapped a K-Wings' season-high three-game winless streak (0-2-0-1)

Maxime Clermont (2-1-0-0) earned his second consecutive win making 27 saves in the victory, while Muse (4-3-1-1) had 38 saves in the loss.

Kalamazoo's victory also snapped Florida's three-game overall winning streak, as well as their four-game road win streak.
