November 28, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired forward forward Yannick Tifu ["TEE foo"] from the Chicago Express in exchange for forward Chad Painchaud. In a separate transaction also announced today, the Toronto Marlies recalled forward Matt Caruana.
"Yannick is the type of player who is always difficult to play against," said Head Coach Larry Courville. "He is a tough competitor with a great combination of skill and grit. We look forward to having him bring his competitive fire to our team."
Tifu (5'11/193) (27), a sixth year pro from Brossard, Quebec, scored three goals and assisted on eight others (eleven points) and registered nineteen penalty minutes in seventeen games with the Express this season. Last year, he recorded a team leading twenty-eight goals and forty-five assists (seventy-three points) in sixty-four games with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. He was also second on the team with 109 penalty minutes. Tifu, who was a member of the 2007 Kelly Cup Championship Finalist Dayton Bombers, has played in 435 total pro games (127g-225a422pts)-eighty-one of which have been in the American Hockey League. Prior to turning pro, Tifu played four seasons with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he registered 248 points (99g-149a) and 129 penalty minutes in 279 total major junior games. This marks the first recall of Caruana to the Marlies. In eleven games with the Royals, he has scored two goals and assisted on three others.
The Royals return to action at the Sovereign Center on Wednesday (November 30, 2011 @ 7:05 pm), when they'll face the Elmira Jackals for the fifth time this season. That night will be a College Night with select draft beer just $2.00. The game night broadcast will start at 6:35 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
