Seconds after a penalty on Justin Taylor expired; the Jackals took advantage of the unsettled situation with goal from R.J. Anderson. Anderson, who roofed his second goal of the season, has scored both his goals this year against Kalamazoo.

Elmira extended their lead later in the period, when Ryan Nie's pass to the neutral zone was intercepted by A.J. Perry. Perry initial shot off an odd-man rush for the Jackals was stopped by Nie, but Dustin Cameron (3rd), who was playing in his first game since early December pushed in the rebound.

In the waning moments of the opening period, Kalamazoo cut the deficit in half, when Kory Karlander found Justin Taylor (11th) in front for a backhanded tally. Karlander's assist moved him into fourth in league in scoring with 36 points.

Momentum from Taylor's goal carried into the second period for Kalamazoo. Celebrating his 100th career professional game, Bryan Jurynec recorded the equalizer by crashing the net and knocking in the rebound for his second goal of the season 2:12 into the period.
