Grizzlies Beat Ontario 5-3

Ontario, California -The Utah Grizzlies (21-10-3-1) defeated the Ontario Reign 5-3 Friday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Five Utah skaters scored goals and goaltender Andrew Engelage improved to 11-3-2-1 by winning his sixth-straight start.

"Ontario came out hard and we responded well," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "Some guys stepped up physically and emotionally and the rest of the team followed. Again we got some timely saves too, especially early."

Utah fell behind 3:46 into the game on a power-play goal but took over the game from there. The Grizzlies tied it up as Simon Ferguson cleared the puck shorthanded. Matt Sorteberg chased it into the corner of the Ontario end and fed Ferguson on the blueline as he blasted a cannon for his seventh goal of the year to tie the game at 13:01. The Grizzlies made it 2-1 on the power-play with 1:11 left in the period as Brent Gauvreau and Nick Tuzzolino went tic-tac-toe to Tim Crowder in the left circle as he buried his 11th goal of the year.

The Grizzlies responded 1:59 after Ontario tied the game at two 8:45 into the second period with two goals in 1:14. First Crowder and Tuzzolino setup Tom May on the side of the net for his third goal of the year at 10:44. Then Brett Parnham took the puck behind the net and spun in front for his 9th goal of the year.

Utah made it 5-2 1:48 into the third period on their third power-play goal of the night as Hugo Carpentier and Brent Gauvreau setup Kevin Deeth in front for the tap in and his seventh goal of the year.

The Grizzlies outshot Ontario 29-19 in the game. Utah went three-for-five on the power-play.

Utah and Ontario meet again Saturday in California. Face-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home for four-straight games beginning Wednesday, January 12 when they welcome in Idaho for a 7:05 p.m. face-off.
