Jumbo Shrimp Fall in Finale with Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va - Following their historic 20-run offensive output from Saturday, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp bats were held relatively quiet in an 8-2 loss to the Norfolk Tides Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Norfolk (26-28) jumped out to another early lead and never looked back. Richie Martin led off with a single against Jumbo Shrimp starter Bryan Hoeing (L, 4-2). Three batters later, Jacob Nottingham and DJ Stewart walked to load the bases. Rylan Bannon reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Martin to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead. Anthony Bemboom followed with a single, scoring both Nottingham and Stewart to increase the advantage to 3-0.

The Tides continued to build their lead in the bottom of the second. After two quick outs to start the inning, Stewart worked a walk and Kyle Stowers hit a towering two-run home run to give Norfolk a 5-0 lead.

Jacksonville (28-26) broke through in the top of the third against Norfolk starter DL Hall (W, 1-1). With two outs, Peyton Burdick singled and Lewin Díaz (12) drove him in with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Norfolk responded immediately in the bottom of the third. Stewart led off with a walk and following a strikeout, Bemboom was hit by a pitch and Patrick Dorrian walked, loading the bases. After a mound visit, Dylan Harris hit a sac fly, plating Stewart to give the Tides a 6-2 advantage.

The Tides continued to add to their lead in the fifth. Cadyn Grenier doubled and scored two batters later from a double by Bemboom to increase the Norfolk lead to 7-2.

The final tally of the game for the Tides came in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Stowers blasted his second home run of the day, giving Norfolk a 8-2 lead.

After an off day on Monday, the Jumbo Shrimp return home for a six-game set with the Gwinnett Stripers, starting Tuesday, June 7 at 7:05 p.m. LHP Will Stewart (0-0, 4.20) will start on the mound for Jacksonville and Gwinnett will hand the ball off to RHP Huascar Ynoa (1-2, 5.09).
