COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Clippers defeat the Toledo Mud Hens 5-4 in 12 innings on Sunday afternoon at Huntington Park in Columbus. Jake Jewell picked up the win for Columbus, bringing his record to 1-2. Nolan Blackwood gets the loss for Toledo, he is now 1-1.
Trayce Thompson led the offensive charge driving in all four runs, going 2-4 on the day with a three-run home run and an RBI double. Brendon Davis also picked up two hits in the loss. Austin Meadows, Riley Greene, and Josh Lester each picked up a hit as well.
Drew Hutchison got the start on the mound, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing one hit, one walk and four strikeouts. Sam Howard would follow, pitching 1.1 innings, picking up two strikeouts. Luis Castillo pitched 0.2 inning, allowing one hit. Bryan Garcia pitched a 1-2-3 6th inning in his 1.0 inning of work. Miguel Del Pozo pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one run on three hits and one strikeout. Ricardo Pinto picked up a hold in his 1.0 inning of work while allowing one hit. Derek Law picked up his second blown save, allowing two runs on one hit, one walk and one strikeout over his 1.0 inning of work. Miguel Diaz would pick up his third blown save, allowing one unearned run on one hit in his 1.0 inning of work. Blackwood allowed one unearned run on two hits in his 1.1 innings of work, picking up the loss. The final two runs for Columbus were unearned due to the Extra Inning Runner Rule.
What's Next: The Toledo Mud Hens are off on Monday, but return home Tuesday for Bark at the Park night at Fifth Third Field, when they will open up a 6-game homestand with the Iowa Cubs. First pitch on Tuesday is at 7:05 pm.
