Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights pounded out 11 runs on 11 hits en route to a commanding 11-4 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a six-game series from Truist Field. The Knights slugged three home runs in the game
Center fielder Mark Payton started the scoring for the Knights in the bottom of the fifth inning with the team trailing the Redbirds by a score of 3-0. Payton launched a two-run home run on the roof of the Atrium Health Home Run Porch. The home run put the Knights on the scoreboard and down a run to the Redbirds, 3-2. For Payton, it was his seventh home run of the season with the Knights. He went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, one home run and two RBIs.
The Redbirds tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead of the Knights by a score of 4-2. In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Charlotte offense opened up the game with a big five-run inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from third baseman Laz Rivera. It was his fourth home run of the season.
One inning later, with the Knights ahead by a score of 7-4, the offense continued to shine. Right fielder Micker Adolfo ripped a three-run home run, his fourth of the season. Adolfo finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored, the home run and four RBIs.
RHP Mike Wright started the game for the Knights in his return to the team and was sharp over six innings. Wright, who was signed by the Chicago White Sox and added to Charlotte's roster just before the game, allowed three runs on three hits over six innings of work. He walked two batters and allowed two home runs.
RHP Yacksel Ríos was the winning pitcher in Sunday's game. He allowed one run on two walks in one inning of work to notch his second win of the season. Relievers Hunter Schryver (1.0 IP) and Lincoln Henzman (1.0 IP) combined to hold the Redbirds scoreless over the final two innings of the game.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jiménez continued his major league rehab assignment and played left field on Sunday. He went 0-for-2 at the plate for Charlotte.
The Knights will have an off day on Monday before heading to Louisville to open a six-game road series against the Louisville Bats from Louisville Slugger Field on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
