Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned goaltender Joey MacDonald to the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, the Griffins today assigned right wing Willie Coetzee, defenseman Brian Lashoff and goaltender Jordan Pearce to the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
MacDonald, 30, has been the Red Wings' backup netminder during their last 15 games, serving as the understudy to Chris Osgood for the first two and Jimmy Howard for the last 13. He saw his only action in relief of Howard during Detroit's 5-1 loss at Atlanta on Nov. 24, stopping seven of eight shots during the third period.
At the time of his Oct. 28 recall from Grand Rapids, MacDonald ranked among the AHL's leaders with a 1.72 GAA (9th) and one shutout (T1st), to go with a 0.929 save percentage and a 2-1-1 record.
MacDonald, whose next victory in a Grand Rapids uniform will break a tie with Howard (90 wins) for franchise supremacy, will return to the lineup this Friday when the Griffins visit the Milwaukee Admirals at 8 p.m. EST.
Coetzee, 20, registered the first multi-point game of his rookie season with two assists in Saturday's 10-8 win at Chicago. In 11 games this season, he shows four assists, four penalty minutes and a plus-one rating.
Lashoff, 20, has seen action in nine games with Grand Rapids, contributing one assist, 11 PIM and a plus-two rating. Both he and Coetzee are expected to rejoin the Griffins next week after playing three home games for the Walleye this weekend.
Pearce, 24, has appeared in five games for the Griffins, going 2-1-1 with a 3.28 GAA and a 0.892 save percentage. In three games with Toledo prior to his Oct. 28 recall, he posted a 1-2-0 record with one shutout, a 4.38 GAA and a 0.867 save percentage.
