ALBANY, NY - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins showed why they have the best record in the league, taking down the Albany Devils, 5-1, Wednesday evening at the Times Union Center. Dustin Jeffery led the 15-4-0-0 Penguins with a pair of goals. Albany's night was highlighted by Patrick Davis, who set the club record for career AHL points.

Davis etched his name into the Devils' five-year history book with an assist on Michael Swift's goal at 7:58 of the opening period. The helper was his 111th career point, passing Niclas Bergfors for most career AHL points in a Devils' uniform.

"It's nice to get that point and be up there," Davis said. "It's not the way I want to do it. I'm pretty upset with the outcome, but we have three more games this week and a chance to bounce back."

The goal came after Louis Robitaille made a dump pass behind the Penguins' goal. Davis swooped in and made a centering pass to Swift for a one timer to make it 1-1. The goal was Swifts' fourth of the season.

Dustin Jeffrey's continued his success against the Devils and gave his team a 2-1 advantage after one. He made it 1-0 on the power play 2:33 into the game and added another man-up advantage at 14:56. In three games against Albany, Jeffrey has four goals and four assists.

"We were playing well," Davis said. "Then we took two penalties and they made us pay for it. Our penalty kill has to be better. I think we had three power-play opportunities in the first and we didn't do anything with them. We have to pick it up because that's a big part of the game now."

Back-to-back goals during a 15 second span gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 4-1 lead early in the second period. First Brett Sterling tapped in his eighth goal of the year at 4:56 and then Tim Wallace matched Sterling's season total with a shot from the right circle at 5:12.

Still in the second, Robert Bortuzzo gave the Pens a three-goal lead with a power-play tally at 11:12.

Dave Caruso began the game in net for Albany, which is now 9-12-0-0, and made 13 saves on 14 shots before being chased after 25:04 of play. Jeff Frazee made his first appearance in net since missing the previous two games. He stopped 18-of-19 shots.

John Curry earned the win with 21 stops. He is now 8-2 on the year and entered the game with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

The Devils return to the Times Union Center ice on Friday to take on defending-champion Hershey at 7:00 p.m. can be purchased at the Times Union Center box office or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Fans can also buy tickets via charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com.
