Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Abbotsford Heat 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. Max Pacioretty scored both of Hamilton's goals in regulation while Gabriel Dumont and Aaron Palushaj provided goals in the shootout to win the game.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 9:59 of the first frame. Pacioretty received the puck from Frederic St. Denis before dishing a pass to David Desharnais, who was positioned to the right of the net. Desharnais faked a shot before sliding the puck back to Pacioretty, who tapped it past Abbotsford starting goaltender Leland Irving.
The Heat tied the game 1-1 at 2:26 of the third stanza. Andrew Carroll received the puck from Joe Piskula while positioned in the right corner. Carroll fed the puck to Hugo Carpentier, who was skating towards the net. Carpentier snapped a shot over the glove of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford and into the net.
The 'Dogs took a 2-1 lead at 12:44 of the final frame. Desharnais sent the puck to Mathieu Carle, who fired a shot that bounced off the post. Pacioretty scooped-up the loose rebound before flipping the puck over Irving and into the net.
Lance Bouma tied the game 2-2 at 16:01 of the third period. Bryan Cameron collected a loose puck in front of the Hamilton net before firing a shot. The rebound popped out from under Sanford's pads allowing Bouma to whack it past the goaltender and into the net.
Neither team could break the tie in the extra frame which sent the game to a shootout. Curtis Sanford stopped four of five shooters while Palushaj and Dumont were the only two skaters to score for the Bulldogs to win the game.
The Bulldogs will host the Peoria Rivermen on Friday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum before welcoming the Chicago Wolves to Copps Coliseum on Saturday, December 4th for a 4:00 p.m. game.
