December 1, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)...* The Rochester Americans announced today that the team will once again collect toys for the United States Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" drive in an effort to provide Christmas gifts to the needy children of the Greater Rochester Area and the surrounding communities. This year marks the ninth consecutive season the Amerks have been affiliated with the program.
"The Rochester Americans pride themselves on being a part of the fabric of the city of Rochester and we invite all of our fans to support this 'Toys for Tots' effort and help us put a smile on the face of as many kids as possible during this holiday season," said Amerks President Lewis Staats.
The campaign is scheduled to run from Wednesday, December 1st to Friday, December 10th. Fans can donate new, unwrapped toys during four Amerks games in December, beginning on Friday, December 3rd. The team will also collect toys on Saturday, December 4th, Wednesday, December 8th and Friday, December 10th. Fans who bring in a new, unwrapped toy on any of those nights will receive $4.00 off any purchased ticket at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office, with the exception of the 200 Upper End and 200 Balcony seating. The U.S. Marines will be on hand on Friday, December 3rd and Friday, December 10th to partake in the collection of toys, though patrons are still eligible to receive the discount on any of the given "Toys for Tots" nights.
Fans who have already purchased tickets for these games are still encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy as well to support this very worthwhile cause and make this a very special holiday for as many kids as possible.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
This marks the 63rd year of the Marine Corps involvement with the nationwide "Toys for Tots" program. For further information, please contact the Amerks' Communications Department at (585) 454-5335, the local Toys for Tots Office at (585) 802-3192 or go online to rochester-ny.toysfortots.org.
