Thursday, Nov. 25: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2, Binghamton 5

PP: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 for 7, Binghamton 2 for 5
The Penguins travelled to Binghamton for a Thanksgiving Eve tilt looking to extend their road win streak to ten straight games. Barry Brust made an American Hockey League season-high 52 saves on 54 shots helping to lead the B-Sens to the 5-2 victory and halt the Pens road win streak at nine. Erik Condra, Jim O'Brien and Derek Smith would each go on to record a goal and pair of assists for the B-Sens, while Geoff Kinrade had a two-point night with a goal and assist. Forward Zack Smith rounded out the scoring for the B-Sens. Eric Tangradi and Brett Sterling each notched goals for the Penguins.
Friday, Nov. 26: Hamilton 1, Binghamton 0
Shots: Hamilton 18, Binghamton 33
PP: Hamilton 0 for 4, Binghamton 0 for 4
Despite outshooting the Bulldogs, Hamilton net minders Curtis Sanford and Robert Mayer stood tall, turning away all 33 Binghamton shots on net to shutout the Senators at Scotiabank Place, home of their National Hockey League parent club, the Ottawa Senators. Alexander Avtsin's third goal of the season helped Hamilton earn the win in front of an AHL season-high crowd of 14,873. Robin Lehner manned the pipes for Binghamton, stopping 17 of 18 shots, while Jim O'Brien and Roman Wick seemed to generate the most scoring chances, each recording six shots on goal against the Bulldogs.
Saturday, Nov. 27: Binghamton 3, Albany 4
Shots: Binghamton 34, Albany 32
PP: Binghamton 2 for 7, Albany 1 for 4
Although the B-Sens were able to work their way up from a first period deficit of 3-0, they still fell short Saturday at the Times Union Center in Albany. Colin Greening, Jim O'Brien and Zack Smith all tallied goals for Binghamton, while defenseman Derek Smith notched two assists as the B-Sens fell to the Devils. Matt Anderson would score the game winning goal for Albany, while Michael Swift turned in a two-point night with a pair of assists. Barry Brust was back in goal for Binghamton, making 28 saves.
Record: 10-10-2-1
Standings: The B-Sens are fifth place in the East Division (23 points).
THIS WEEK...
Friday, Dec. 3 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins)
The B-Sens make their fourth and final trip of the 2010-11 regular season to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza this Friday night. The B-Sens are 2-1-0-1 against the East Division leading Penguins so far this season and have outscored the Pens 12 to seven. 15 different B-Sens have scored against Wilkes-Barre, while only ten Penguins have managed to earn points against the Senators. Seven of those 15 B-Sens players have two or more points. Forward Erik Condra leads the charge with six points against the Pens (one goal, five assists).
Saturday, Dec. 4 @ Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals)
The B-Sens are set to make their second trip to the Giant Center in Hershey this Saturday for the fourth of eight meetings between the two teams this season. The B-Sens enter the week trailing the Bears by only two points in the East Division standings. Hershey currently ranks fourth in the division with a record of 12-9-0-1, good for 25 points. The Bears are an even 6-6-0-0 on home ice, but have managed to outscore the B-Sens at the Giant Center 24 to 14 over the past two seasons. Bears forward Andrew Gordon currently leads the AHL in goals with 15. Gordon also leads the league in power play goes with nine.
SENS SNIPPETS...
B-Sens defenseman Derek Smith earned the B-Sens Reebok/AHL Player of the Week nomination for the week ending Nov. 28. Smith recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in three games last week. Nov. 25 Smith had a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) as the B-Sens defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-2; this included an assist on Zack Smith's game winning goal. The B-Sens alternate captain ranks second overall among all Binghamton defenseman in scoring this season with two goals and 11 assists for 13 points. Smith's four assists this week helped push him past Antoine Vermette on the B-Sens list of all-time assists leaders, where he is now tied with Brian Pothier for sixth overall with 76 assists.
Rookie forward Bobby Butler notched four of his five game winning goals in the month of November, ranking him first overall among all American Hockey League players in game winning goals.
Goaltender Barry Brust put up three straight 40-plus save performances in the month of November. Nov. 19 versus Hershey (a 4-2 B-Sens win) Brust turned away 42 shots, Nov. 20 versus Hartford (a 3-2 B-Sens overtime loss) he turned away 40 shots and Nov. 25 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (a 5-2 B-Sens win) he made an AHL season-high 52 saves, just two saves shy of tying the B-Sens all time record for most saves in a game.
B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY...
The Binghamton Senators consistently strive to be active in the Southern Tier community in ways both large and small.
This week goaltender Mike Brodeur will be visiting African Road Elementary School in Vestal to read to the first grade class, while goaltender Barry Brust and defenseman Craig Schira will take part in a local high school hockey practice.
Additionally the B-Sens will be participating in the following events over the next week:
Sunday, Dec. 5 the Seventh Annual Toys for Tots dinner will take place at Little Venice Restaurant in Binghamton. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Broome County Toys for Tots campaign. With their donation fans can purchase a spaghetti dinner with salad and beverage for just $8.99 which will be served up by their favorite B-Sens players. Little Venice will also donate a portion of the evening's sales to Broome County Toys for Tots.
Tuesday, Dec. 7 Colin Greening's Holiday Hat Trick for the Family Enrichment Network's Adopt-A-Family holiday program concludes at 5 p.m. at the California Grill. The restaurant is generously donating 10% of their sales for the day to the Adopt-A-Family program. B-Sens players will be on hand to serve food. Fans can also expect a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
