Manitoba Moose News Release

Claude Noel previously spent seven seasons in Milwaukee earlier in his coaching career but the visitors bench that Manitoba's new head coach stood on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center was definitely foreign territory. Coach Noel and the Manitoba Moose (11-7-0-3) ended their four-game road trip visiting the Admirals (12-6-1-4) but were doubled up by the home team's offence 6-3 in front of 2,665 in Milwaukee.

Manitoba Moose left winger Jonas Andersson was called for hooking at 1:51 of the opening period and watched as his former AHL team opened the scoring shortly after. While on the power play, Admirals left winger Kelsey Wilson barrelled into the Moose end and forced a loose puck that Andreas Thuresson pulled toward the net then sent cross crease to Jamie Lundmark positioned to Moose goalie Tyler Weiman's right. It all unfolded too quickly for Weiman to react to and Lundmark jammed in his fourth goal of the season, giving Milwaukee an early one-goal lead at 3:18.

Andersson's penalty would be the only minor called in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Moose struggled to maintain any pressure in the Admirals end but still outshot Milwaukee, 9-8. The teams headed to the dressing room with Admirals holding a 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute into the second period, a poorly timed line change by the Moose opened up a golden opportunity for the Milwaukee Admirals as defenceman Jonathan Blum spotted Gabriel Bourque on a stretch pass sending him in all alone on Weiman. The Moose defencemen jumping on the ice couldn't catch Bourque and he made no mistake faking Weiman to the backhand and lifting the puck upstairs into the cage. Milwaukee's second goal of the game was scored at 0:47 of the second period extending the home team's lead, 2-0.

Recognizing the need for something to spark his team, Manitoba's Tommy Maxwell squared up with Milwaukee's Scott Ford two minutes after Bourque's goal. The two heavyweights tied up and traded a few right crosses with Ford eventually scoring the takedown.

The fight didn't serve in Manitoba's favour as Milwaukee's Chris Mueller entered the Moose end baring down on a two-on-one with Andreas Thuresson and looked off his option before firing a shot on Weiman. The Moose goalie stopped the first attempt but Mueller buried the rebound for Milwaukee's third goal of the game at 5:16 of the middle frame.

Jonas Andersson answered back immediately for the Moose. Andersson gained possession along the left wing boards in Milwaukee's end and danced around a couple Admirals defenders before letting go a screened wrist shot from the high slot that Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich couldn't read. Andersson's unassisted third goal of the season closed the gap to 3-1 at 5:35.

The Moose continued to pour it on drawing a Milwaukee penalty, but during the delayed call Moose defenceman Chris Tanev collected the puck after Marco Rosa rang a shot off the post and spotted Jordan Schroeder in the slot for a one-timer that he sent low into the net by Dekanich's blocker. Schroeder's fourth goal of the season at 6:53 of the second period closed the score to 3-2.

The goals kept coming, this time in Milwaukee's favour. A turnover in Manitoba's end was scooped up by Chris Mueller who sent a pass through the legs of a Moose defenceman to Admirals leading scorer Linus Klasen at the side of the crease. Klasen made the one-touch deflection past Weiman for his 11th goal of the season to give his team back their two-goal lead. After four goals in the span of 3:06, the Admirals led the Moose 4-2.

The high scoring second period drew to a close with the Admirals leading by two goals, 4-2. Manitoba and Milwaukee both recorded nine shots on goal in the middle frame and the Moose led in that category 18-17 after two periods.

The Moose carried their first power play of the game into the third period as Milwaukee's Aaron Johnson was called for holding with 0:22 remaining in the second, but Manitoba was unable to capitalize on the man advantage.

The Moose went back to work on the power play at 8:37 when Milwaukee's Aaron Johnson took his second minor by tripping up Jordan Schroeder as he rushed across the Milwaukee blue line. This time Manitoba capitalized as Moose defenceman Evan Oberg leaned into a slap shot from the high slot that Dekanich couldn't get a piece of. Assisted by Moose rookie Cody Hodgson, Oberg's power play marker again drew Milwaukee's lead to just one goal with 10:04 left in the third period.

Trailing by one late in the third period, Manitoba head coach Claude Noel called a timeout with 1:36 remaining and the Moose headed back to the faceoff circle in Milwaukee's end with six skaters. After half a minute of pressure in the Admirals end, Chris Mueller provided the dagger into Manitoba's empty net with 0:51 to go.

Tyler Weiman returned to the crease with the Admirals up 5-3 with less than a minute. Then if there was any doubt, Milwaukee scored one more for good measure. Mike Bartlett crossed the Moose blueline on a two-on-two rush and wired a wrister by Weiman's glove hand to cap off the game with the Admirals' sixth goal.

Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich stopped 27 of Manitoba's 30 shots and the Moose lost to the Admirals 6-3 in the final game of their four-game road trip.

The Manitoba Moose fly home from Milwaukee on Thursday and prepare for two weekend games against the Oklahoma City Barons at MTS Centre on Friday & Saturday, Dec. 3 & 4. Game time for both games is 7:30 p.m. CST. Listen to the game live with Brian Munz and Jim Toth on CJOB 68 or online at www.cjob.com.
