Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - A shining performance between the pipes by Tristan Jarry helped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins pull within one point of first place with a 4-1 win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Jarry made 25 saves for the Penguins (37-21-4-1), including several highlight reel stops while his team held a one-goal lead in crunch time.

A four-on-three power play afforded the Penguins the first goal of the game, as Tom Kostopoulos jammed a loose puck past Dan Ellis at 17:32 of the first period.

Just 1:09 later, Riley Barber tied the game immediately after a man advantage expired for Hershey.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took back the lead when a point shot took a dramatic change of direction off of Dustin Jeffrey and found its way behind Ellis at 7:38 of the middle frame. Barry Goers was given the primary assist on the go-ahead goal, his first point of the season.

Jarry made some sparkling saves as Hershey peppered the rookie netminder with 14 shots in third period.

With Hershey's goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Jeffrey hoisted a puck over the heads of several Bears and bounced an aerial strike into an empty net for his second goal of the game and an insurance marker with 47 seconds left in regulation.

The Penguins scored another empty netter off the stick of Tom Sestito with 5.1 ticks left on the clock, brining the game to its final score of 4-1.

Jarry's 25 saves and third period heroics were good enough to earn him earning first star of the game honors. Dan Ellis turned aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's power play finished the evening one-for-six, and its penalty kill was a perfect five-for-five.

The Penguins and Bears battle it out once again tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 20, in the second game of their weekend home and home series. Puck drop at Giant Center is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
