McCarthy attempted a wrap around, losing the puck to the left boards. Young pinched on the play, taking a slapshot from the left hash mark. Goalie Leland Irving made the initial save but Parkes batted the puck out of midair and into the back of the net for his 14th goal of the season. The Barracuda grew its lead to 2-0 thanks to a goal from forward Ryan Carpenter at 14:14 of the period. Defensemen Karl Stollery and Mirco Mueller each earned an assist on the power-play goal. Stollery set up the San Jose power play at the left point, feeding a centering pass to Mueller. Carpenter received a pass from Mueller at the right point, walking the puck to the top of the faceoff circle. He wristed a shot on net, beating Irving on the glove side for his 14th goal of the season.
Wild left wing Brett Bulmer scored 8:00 into the second period, cutting the Barracuda lead to 2-1. Forward Kurtis Gabriel and defenseman and Zach Palmquist earned an assist each on the goal. Palmquist hit Bulmer with a stretch pass through the neutral zone, springing Bulmer on a breakaway. Entering the zone uncontested, he slid the puck to his backhand and beat goalie Aaron Dell for his third goal of the season. Iowa forward Christoph Bertschy scored on a breakaway at 10:34 of the period, tying the game 2-2. Forward Brady Brassart earned the lone assist on the goal after causing a turnover in the defensive zone. Dell stopped the initial shot but the rebound deflected off Bertschy and into the net for his 10th goal of the season.
Barracuda forward Jeremy Morin scored on the power play with 1:32 remaining in overtime, leading San Jose to a 3-2 victory.
