CLEVELAND - In front of 12,472 fans at The Q, the team's fourth-largest home crowd of the season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Manitoba Moose on Saturday by a final score of 5-0. With the win, the Monsters improved to 34-20-5-5 overall this season and with a .609 points percentage, remain alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Monsters grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening frame's final minute on Saturday as Alex Broadhurst popped home a power-play goal at 19:39 on feeds from Daniel Zaar and Dean Kukan. In the second, Lake Erie made it 2-0 less than one minute into the frame when T.J. Tynan and Mark Cundari combined to assist Josh Anderson for a power-play strike at 0:38.
Cundari then converted an even-strength breakaway chance at 5:05 to make it 3-0, with Trent Vogelhuber and Lukas Sedlak collecting assists on the play. Just over one minute later, Broadhurst capped Lake Erie's middle-frame scoring with his second of the game, an even-strength finish at 6:06, set up by John Ramage, that made it 4-0 Lake Erie heading into the third. The final frame's lone goal went to the Monsters and Sedlak at 7:24, a five-on-five score fed by Vogelhuber that delivered Lake Erie a 5-0 victory.
Anton Forsberg collected his second shutout of the season in net for the Monsters and improved to 18-9-4 this season thanks to a 19-save performance, while Eric Comrie took the loss in net for Manitoba despite stopping 35 of the 40 pucks he faced.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Sunday matinee vs. the Toronto Marlies with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 3:00 pm on ESPN 850 WKNR and the Monsters Hockey Network.
