Springfield Falcons News Release

Hartford, CT - The Springfield Falcons couldn't stop the Hartford Wolf Pack offense in a 4-3 shootout loss on Saturday night at the XL Center.

18 seconds into the game, Raphael Diaz fired a slap shot from the point to give the Wolf Pack an early lead. His sixth of the year was assisted by Daniel Paille and Nicklas Jensen. At 7:56, Michael Bunting stole a pass in the Hartford zone and fed Jordan Szwarz to tie the game. Szwarz scored on a one-timer for his seventh of the season. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead with a slap shot from Justin Hache at 11:31. Szwarz and Bunting assisted on the final goal of the period. Marek Langhamer turned aside 17 shots in the period.

Much like the first period, Hartford struck early in the second period with a goal from Chad Nehring just 58 second in. His 18th of the year was unassisted to tie the game at two. 30 seconds later, Laurent Dauphin deflected a Dylan Reese shot to regain the one-goal lead. Szwarz also assisted on the goal to give the forward a three-point night.

The third period remained scoreless for a majority of the frame. The Falcons were able to hold the 3-2 lead as the teams entered the final minute when Hartford pulled goaltender Magnus Hellberg. Nehring tied the game when a shot tipped off the skate of a Falcon and found the back of the net. During the stanza, Langhamer was tested heavily again. The rookie netminder made 13 saves including many scoring chances. This parlayed into overtime where Hartford posted five shots on Langhamer, two of which via a breakaway. The game was forced to a shootout when Hartford broke free to win the game. Jensen and Luke Adam scored for the Wolf Pack while only Alex Grant could tally a goal for the Falcons. The shootout win finalized the game at a 4-3 score in favor of the Wolf Pack. Langhamer made 43 saves, the most a Falcons' netminder has stopped all season. His record moved to 6-6-2. Hellberg collected the win with 12 saves to improve to 26-16-2.

The Falcons return home tomorrow night to faceoff against the Wolf Pack at the MassMutual Center at 5:00 p.m. The game features the team poster giveaway and full team autograph session sponsored by Xfinity.
