Blue Jackets Add Korpisalo on Emergency Recall

CLEVELAND - In the wake of a 4-0 Friday home defeat at the hands of the Manitoba Moose, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters announced Saturday that rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo was added to the Columbus Blue Jackets' roster on emergency recall. Selected by Columbus in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft with the 62nd overall pick, Korpisalo is 6-6-2 with two shutouts, a 2.31 goals-against average (GAA) and a .920 save percentage (S%) in 14 appearances for the Monsters so far this season. In 26 appearances for the Blue Jackets this year, Korpisalo is 14-8-4 with a 2.63 GAA and a .918 S%.

A 21 year-old native of Pori, Finland, Korpisalo appeared in three AHL games for the Springfield Falcons last season, posting a record of 0-2-0 with a 3.20 GAA and a .878 S% in his first North American professional action. In 38 Liiga appearances for Ilves Tampere last season, Korpisalo registered a 14-13-7 record with a 2.34 GAA and a .919 S%. The 6'2", 172 lb. net-minder logged time with six teams in three European leagues in 2013-14, including eight appearances for Ilves Tampere, for whom Korpisalo posted a 3-1-0 mark with a 1.42 GAA and a .957 S%.

The Monsters also announced on Saturday that goaltender Brad Thiessen was recalled from the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones. A 5'11", 171 lb. seventh-year pro from Aldergrove, British Columbia, Thiessen is 10-4-4 in 20 appearances for Lake Erie this season with a team-leading three shutouts, a 2.00 GAA and a .926 S%. The CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for February, Thiessen is 10-4-2 in 19 appearances this season for Cincinnati with one shutout, a 1.88 GAA and a .934 S%. Thiessen appeared in five NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2011-12 season, posting a 3-1-0 record with a 3.72 GAA and a .877 S%, and has 221 career AHL appearances to his credit, spanning parts of six seasons from 2009 to 2015 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Norfolk Admirals, Adirondack Flames and Lake Erie.

Prior to his professional career, Thiessen posted a 52-46-12 record in 111 NCAA appearances for Northeastern University with nine shutouts, a 2.40 GAA and a .922 S% spanning three seasons from 2006 to 2009. During his collegiate career, Thiessen was named a finalist for the 2008-09 Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player and earned 2008-09 Hockey East Player of the Year honors.
