'Canes Reassign Carrick, Sutter to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned defenseman Trevor Carrick and forward Brody Sutter to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Checkers play on Sunday in Rockford, Ill., and currently sit in one of the final positions to qualify for the AHL's Calder Cup playoffs.
Carrick, 21, has appeared in two NHL games for Carolina this season, and made his NHL debut on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals. Carrick is in his second professional season and currently ranks tied for sixth among all AHL defensemen in scoring, with 37 points (9g, 28a) in 58 games. The Stouffvile, Ont., native is third among Checkers skaters in scoring this year and leads the team in assists with 28. Carrick has totaled 69 points (16g, 53a) 134 career AHL games for Charlotte. He also represented Canada at the 2015 Spengler Cup, helping Canada top HC Lugano in the final, and was a member of the Central Division All-Stars at the 2016 AHL All-Star Challenge. The Hurricanes selected Carrick in the fourth-round, 115th overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.
Sutter, 24, has appeared in three NHL games for the Hurricanes this season. The Viking, Alb., native has totaled 21 points (11g, 10a) and 33 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Checkers on the AHL level. The Hurricanes' seventh-round pick (193rd overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, Sutter (6'5", 203 lbs.) has played seven career NHL games with the Hurricanes. He has totaled 35 goals and 45 assists (80 points) in 203 career games with the Checkers.
