January 10, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

Milwaukee, WI * The Utah Grizzlies (13-19-4-3) used 39 saves from Jason Bacashihua and a hat trick from Jarrod Skalde to defeat the Milwaukee Admirals (17-11-4-2) and finish their eight-game road trip with a victory at the Bradley Center. Utah finished the swing 2-4-2 earning point in half of the games.

The Grizzlies power play was rejuvenated in the first period cashing in twice on three chances. Jarrod Skalde scored both goals, his 13th and 14th of the season, pushing the Grizzlies to a 2-0 lead after one period. Utah was outshot in the opening frame 15-9 but Jason Bacashihua seeing his first start in the last three games was amazing making 15 saves including a diving glove stop off a blast from Andrea Johansson.

The Admirals would get on the board just 31 seconds into the second period when Vernon Fiddler would bang home a rebound in front of Bacashihua for his third goal of the season but the Grizzlies and veteran Skalde would school young Brian Finley five minutes later as he would score of a face-off blasting a shot by the unexpecting Finley regaining the two-goal lead for Utah. The Admirals outshot the Grizzlies 27-16 through two periods but it did not matter on the scoreboard.

Steve Gainey would get in on the act in the third period as he and Warren Peters broke down the ice on a two-on-one. Gainey would hang on to the puck and blast it through the pads of Finley. Regan Darby would get credit for the only assist, his first with Utah. The Grizzlies defense would take over from there shutting out the Admirals the rest of the way.

The hat trick for Skalde was his third with Utah and the second of the season.

The Grizzlies and Admirals will meet again on Monday night when it is Derek Parra night at the 'E' Center. The Gold Medal winning speed skater will be on hand promoting his new book Reflections in the Ice. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
