Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Bulldogs put an end to their six game winless streak on Saturday afternoon as they shut out the Manitoba Moose 6-0 at Copps Coliseum. The win improves their record to 22 wins, 14 losses, 5 ties and 2 overtime losses.
Bulldogs netminder Olivier Michaud recorded his first AHL win and shutout, as he faced 25 shots. At the opposite end of the ice, Moose goalie Tyler Moss had 46 shots sent his way in the loss.
Alexander Svitov got the ball rolling for the Bulldogs at 17:18 of the first period, as he was able to put a nifty shot past Moss. Perezhogin and Plante marked assists on the goal.
Still in the first frame, Jimmie Olvestad gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 leads just 34 seconds later on a one-time pass from Duncan Milroy. Patrick Traverse picked up the other assist.
The Bulldogs continued the scoring assault in the second period as Jozef Balej picked up his 22nd on the season (3:07) on a one-timer feed from Chris Higgins. Jean-Philippe Cote also had a helper on that play.
Gordie Dwyer then scored into a wide open net on a short-handed opportunity at the 7:22 mark of the second period, which originated on a nice saucer pass from Francois Beauchemin to Jozef Balej, who both were credited with assists. This put the Bulldogs up 4-0.
Perezhogin notched a goal at 17:37 of the second on a two-man advantage to boost the Dogs' lead to 5-0 before the period was over. Beauchemin and Hainsey had the assists.
Jozef Balej iced the cake while demonstrating some fine puck handling skills as he came in one on one on the a Moose defenceman and then snapped one past the goalie to make it 6-0. Jean-Philippe Cote recorded the only assist on the play.
On the power play, the Bulldogs scored twice of six opportunities. Manitoba went 0 for 4 on the power play.
The Hamilton Bulldogs next home game is not until next month on February 4th at 7:00 p.m. when they host their border rivals, the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum.
