Bruins, Falcons battle to 2-2 tie

The Providence Bruins and Springfield Falcons met in the fifth game of their 10-game season series on Saturday night in Springfield, with the teams battling to a 2-2 tie. The Bruins are now 17-12-9-0 (43 points), putting them in third place in the Atlantic Division. Providence is now 1-0-9 in overtime this season.

Providence forward Brendan Walsh scored his third and fourth goals of the season. Rookie center Brett Nowak assisted on both goals, while All-Star center Matt Herr had an assist on one goal. Rookie goaltender Hannu Toivonen was outstanding, making 42 saves on the night. He is 8-5-3 on the season.

Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert made his season debut in the game. The 22-year-old native in his third year out of the University of Michigan, had not played this season, due to a groin injury sustained during training camp. Defenseman Zdenek Kutlak, also played in the game, after being reassigned to Providence by the Boston Bruins earlier in the day for conditioning purposes.

The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Providence Bruins Hat Night, on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m. The first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Providence Bruins hat, courtesy of the Rhode Island Lottery and WPRI CBS-12/WNAC Fox 64.
