
Jam Use Balanced Attack to Defeat Vipers

BAKERSFIELD, March 20, 2014 - Ike Diogu led a balanced Bakersfield scoring attack with 27 points, including 11 rebounds, as the visiting Jam (18-24) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (29-15) Thursday night by a final score of 131-122. With the win, Bakersfield ended their three-game road trip with perfect 3-0 record and are now winners of four straight games.
The Jam put on an offensive explosion in the first half as they shot 61 percent from the floor, including 11-of-18 from behind the arc, and scored a season-high in first half points with 75. Bakersfield led by as many as 22 points in the second quarter, but the Vipers cut that lead to just four points in the third (97-93).
With momentum on the Vipers side, Bakersfield held their ground and managed to get back on track as they increased their lead back to double-digits (16) in the fourth. The closest Rio Grande Valley got was within eight points late in the game.
The Jam shot better from field (56.1%-45.6%) and held the edge in rebounds (54-34), points in the paint (58-50) and second chance points (15-11). In addition, Bakersfield made 14-of-28 (50.0%) from three-point land while Rio Grande Valley converted on 20-of-60 (33.3%).
Jerel McNeal had 26 points and six assists while Terrel Harris posted 20 points, five assists and five rebounds. Jeremy Wise added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds off the bench. Derrick Byars tallied 11 points and eight rebounds while reserve forward Mac Koshwal contributed 11 points (5-of-5 FG's) and six rebounds.
The Vipers were paced by Troy Daniels (25 points, 6 assists, 5 steals) and Robert Covington (25 points, 9 rebounds). Darius Morris added a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists.
Bakersfield will travel back home to host the Reno Bighorns on Saturday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
